Fiscal Sponsorship Program
Fiscal sponsorship is a formal relationship between a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a group, project or organization where the 501(c)3 brings that organization under its tax status umbrella. For a small fee the United Way’s fiscal sponsorship program offers smaller groups, projects and organizations an opportunity to focus on its work—while the United Way manages the grant funds, makes sure that you are working within the confines of the law, and serves as the direct connection to the IRS.
This program exists to help projects dedicate resources to impacting the community, without having to spend capacity on administrative overhead. While acting as fiscal sponsor the UWGC works with these organizations, through its nonprofit center, to build infrastructure capacity. This may include strategic planning, board development and financial procedure development.
If your project, organization or group is in need of a fiscal sponsor and would like to learn more please contact Jamie-Lee Venable via email at: jvenable@unitedwaygenesee.org. The United way only acts as a fiscal sponsor for organizations/groups/projects that are working to impact the basic needs, health, education and/or financial stability residents.
Currently the UWGC acts as a fiscal sponsor for:
- Flint SOUP
- Friends of Berston
- R L Jones Community Outreach Center at Greater Holy Temple
- Multiple projects on behalf of Flint city government
