As UAW Labor Liaisons, we pledge our services to all persons who seek assistance on all problems affecting Health and Welfare. We shall respect all personal matters confided to us and shall never betray a confidence. We shall do our best to support and strengthen the Community Services Program in our local union and the labor movement. We will ever seek increased knowledge and understanding to better serve the needs of our union and the community in which we live.
Did you know that the United Way, with the UAW and General Motors has built over 4000 handicapped accessible ramps for those in need throughout Flint, Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee Counties. We are averaging three calls a day inquiring about our ramp program. As your UAW Liaisons, we coordinate the program and work with all the different agencies to find assistance for those in need.
Also, as UAW Labor Liaisons we coordinate the United Way UAW Labor Bone Marrow Program. We hold bone marrow drives in Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee Counties and have programs to raise money for the testing of donors. We have registered over 17,500 potential donors and have had over forty life saving matches.
Did you know that the United Way funds 50 different programs in Flint and Genesee County? Some of those include programs of Salvation Army, Food Bank of Eastern Michigan, Boys and Girls Club, YWCA Safe House Emergency Shelter, North End Soup Kitchen, Family Service Agency and many others.
