Community Solution Councils

The Solution Councils provide assistance to the Community Impact Cabinet in the planning and investment of funds from the Community Solutions Fund toward health and human service programs in the established four focus areas:
- Basic Needs/Strengthening Families
- Child/Youth Development
- Older Adults

| Roles and Responsibilities |
- Assist in the development of Request for Proposal (RFP) criteria
- Identify and recruit other volunteers for the Solution Councils
- Review proposals to assure compliance with United Way policies and procedures
- Make recommendations for funding to the Community Impact Cabinet
- Actively participate in all scheduled meetings
- Become familiar with the concept of Outcome Measurement evaluation in order to establish compliance with United Way criteria

| Membership and Estimated Time Committment |
The Solution Councils shall be standing committees of the Community Impact Cabinet.
Composition:
Council membership will consist of not fewer than 7 and not more than 11 members.
Commitment:
An initial commitment of two years is required. There is no limit to the number of years a volunteer might serve after those first two years.
Demographic:
Include representatives of diverse sectors of the community. To avoid any conflict of interest, solution councils will not include paid staff of any agency/program receiving United Way funding.
Time Commitment:
Estimated: 25 to 30 hours over a 12-month period.

| Joining a Solution Council |
United Way of Genesee County is looking for volunteers to serve on Community Solutions Councils. Do you feel you have the knowledge and/or expertise in at least one of four focus areas that have been identified by the community as areas of concentration for United Way funding? These areas are:
- Basic Needs/Strengthening Families
- Child/Youth Development
- Older Adults
